#11 Seung-Hwan Oh, Impermanence
by Allison H.
Seung-Hwan Oh is an experimental photographer and microbiologist working in Seoul. He cultivates fungus to eat the films thus creating a series of stunning images through the beauty of the unexpectedness.
“…the intended result is what appears through disappearance…”
So the content of the photographs doesn’t seem to be the point. The encounter of the people in the photos and the decay of their images caused by fungus reveals something else, “what appears through disappearance”, I found it quite poetic. To me, it is always joyful to experiment, and rediscover your mind through accidents and coincidences.
